Big Space, Big Ideas

Lots of projects on the go as always (including some much needed recovery after all the work on a huge Ballarat Heritage Weekend) but we are excited to say that Weave Length is part of continuing to build 'Big Space' a trial coworking space for digital creatives next to the fabulous Mechanics Institute in the main street of Ballarat. Stay tuned for more!

Current Projects

Image from 'Ballarat & District 1901'

We have been working hard in Weave Length land on various projects across events, curation, research, film, painting, teaching and more and in April and May you'll be able to come enjoy some of the fun!
Weave Length presents a special cross-artform exhibition called Each to Each: Artists Respond to the Poetry of Nathan Curnow. The opening will be at Wolveschildren Gallery on April 11th, curated by the wonderful Abbie Matthews. An interview with Abbie and Nathan coming soon!

And for City of Ballarat's Heritage Weekend this year Amy has been working on Living Heritage: Trades & Traditions, an exciting project bringing local history to life through collaboration with graphics and performing arts students from Federation Uni's Arts Academy and the rich resources of local history held by our people, libraries and museums.

Trades & Traditions celebrates Ballarat's culture of innovation and community, inviting visitors to explore a trail of photographs, history, and stories in shop windows en route between the Ballarat Railway Station, Mining Exchange, Mechanics Institute, and Town Hall, bringing to life the world of some of the city's early 20th century traders and traditions. More details soon but put May 10th and 11th in the diary for another great weekend of exploring with this year's theme of 'Who Made Ballarat?'

Book Eyes and Minds

The sculpture of spectacles rides again, along with some of Amy's photographs of libraries around the world, on display at the Ballarat Library for the month of October.

As an accompaniment, here is a film that combines some of Amy's reader images with those collected from others during the Backspace show. The audio comes from interviews with local readers, librarians, and booksellers about their relationship with books and reading. Thanks again to all supporters in this project including Ballarat Library and City of Ballarat, Yum Studio, and UB's Centre for eCommerce and Communications.
